For the past twenty one years I’ve written a Christmas Letter to my family … in recent years more written for my grandchildren. For the past four years, I’ve picked a word … just one as a theme, a focus of my letter. Here’s this year’s version …
Confidence … Passion … Determination … Faith and this year’s word … Wonder. I wonder … we all do. Maybe you wonder … what college will I go to? What kind of person will I grow up to be. Wondering, dreaming really, is a gift that can motivate a day. Shed light on our desires. Even keep us on track when we go astray. It’s good to wonder … reach for the good things we want, that we seek for our lives. In 1903 James Allen wrote a book called, As a Man Thinketh. He offers this …“As a man thinketh … so shall he be.” Or … you become what you think about.
When we wonder, we invite new thoughts, new dreams. We gradually become what we think about. From my Blog below? … a staircase. Here is great imagery for how one might “wonder.” The clear, early steps? Define where we are today. Next steps gradually become less and less clear. We wonder, try to imagine what’s ahead. What our next steps in life will hold. Where we’ll be tomorrow. It’s unknowable. But it’s good to wonder. Mentally, spiritually climb, keep climbing those stairs … One step at a time.
Oh, we all have doubts … regrets. But wondering calls on us to be positive, optimistic. I tell those I coach. “There’s a reason why the windshield on a car is five times larger than the rear view mirror.” Got it?
Try this exercise. Sit back … close your eyes and picture yourself, imagine … a day, a week, even a year from now. Just wonder for a minute or two. Where will I be? What might I be doing? What is the next version of … me? It may be difficult at first. But if you’ll do this … just a couple of times a week? An amazing thing happens. You’ll begin to feel yourself moving into the “wonder” … those desires and dreams of yours. Known as “the law of attraction.” Like a magnet. Almost magically. You will bring good things your way. So … just keep reaching … wondering. There’s always more ahead. New things. Good things. If you’ll just wonder … Wonder.
Thank God for the gifts we’ve been given. We’re so blessed to have. Thank you for all the gifts you’ve given me. I wonder every day … how even more beautiful it’s all going to be.
Merry Christmas …With love,
