Houston? We have an Opportunity…

The following with some revision on my part was sent to me this week by a friend. Beautiful. Inspired by tragedy… immersed in love. As the floods subside. As the cameras leave. We, those not effected by this devastation, will return to our normal lives. Many say, “This great outpouring won’t last long.” Hurricane Sandy… Sandy Hook… 9/11.

But each of us can choose individually can’t we. How long we will feel, learn. Respond to the lessons of Houston.

Read… Enjoy… Think.In life … We as people believe that others will embrace us with the same love and kindness we choose to embrace them with. Many times we are met with confusion, hurt and a profound feeling of disappointment. But in the past few days, I have seen a special love shown “stranger to stranger.” Get this.I never saw a rescuer interview a person being rescued. I never saw anyone judging one who needed help based on their political views, the value of their home, their ethnicity. Or any of the preferences that divide us.It is my hope, that as damaged as our worlds in Texas and Louisiana are today… that we all will rise. And we WILL.Please let the moments seen in Houston and all areas affected by this tremendous storm, be a testament, a reminder to all. We have been brought to this earth to help each other. Love each other. Not just in a storm coming from the sky, but in the personal storms that will come upon each and every one of us… inevitably.If we can walk across a raging current… we can walk across a street to extend a hand.

If we can pray in the throws of disaster… we can pray in the throws of calm. If we aren’t too busy to open our homes to the homeless, we can give our shirts to those with none.How can we be too busy to stop.. listen, and offer a shoulder. In a moment of sadness or grief. Anger, fear? How can we keep saying, “It’s hopeless” or “I can’t.” When we are witnessing… what many are saying, is impossible? I have witnessed, experienced things this week that have caused me to lose sleep, to question, doubt, lament and cry. Search in vain for peace. God has shown me that some things may make me feel like I’m dying in the moment. But they simply doesn’t compare to the glory of the great and magnificent plan he has for us all. 1 Corinthians 13:13 “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” You see… when all is done. When each of us comes to our rest… Love will be all there is.So… Help each other. Love each other. No expectations. No conditions.Just love each other…. Go out and do something simple or as grand as you choose.Make a difference for someone. Now.
