The Chasm and the Veil….

Emotional Growth

Risk. I have found the greatest risk in life is… investing? starting a business? betting a bunch at Vegas? No. The greatest risk in life is taking an emotional risk. Confronting a colleague at work, a friend or a loved one when there are problems in the relationship. Making yourself vulnerable sharing your true heart with your kids… your spouse. Loving yourself enough, having enough self awareness, courage to reach out for help when you’re stuck, can’t get somewhere on your own.

The opposite of love is fear. That’s right not hate, fear. We only fear the unknown. Fear can paralyze you. Prevent you from taking emotional risks in life… I have a dear friend I coach. She is accomplished, beautiful in spirit. When I first met her we focused on her emerging business, her financials, her team. At one of our sessions she broke down. Cried openly. She was preparing to take one of the most difficult emotional risks any of us face in our lives. Deciding to leave her marriage or not. God bless her. My tears joined hers.

This was far more than dealing with her business. This was at the very core of her being. A husband she loved, maybe just not like before. Children. Oh my her children. Her fear… her lament to me? “He won’t let me go!” To get to the all love inside her she had to face her fears. My response to her lament? “No,——, you. haven’t decided to move on.” Light bulb. Her courage was inspiring. Not the most confident person, she had to reach… yearn… consider taking a defining emotional risk.

The point here was this …

“Oh my God, this feels like trying to jump over a chasm.” No ——, when you summon the courage, face your fears… it will be like walking through a door… piercing a veil.”

She moved on three months ago. “The BEST decision I’ve ever made.” We all have those issues that grip us in fear. We ponder, anguish over them. Inflate their impact. Fear takes over. But the path to the love on the other side of these challenges is like piecing a veil not jumping over a chasm. Faith helps a lot. What is God telling me to do. More… how did Jesus face his fears? Have been books written on this topic. So, when fear takes hold… know. Once your fears are faced, love is there to greet you. Decisions to move forward release you to grow past your fears. Pierce the veil.
