“It” …

News

Being a people guy, I’ve met, worked with … we’ll let me think. Yep. Hundreds of people. Every once in awhile someone will be in front who I’m curious about. “What is it?, I ask myself. Kind of an energy thing. There’s something different about this one. Handsome? The eye contact? Don’t fully know. Just different. They just seem to have “It.”

Last night I ran into another “It” person.

I was just so proud. Not personally for myself. For my granddaughter. I’ll not use her name. “PopPop, this is a little embarrassing.” … Ok. But my nickname for her is Baby Girl (BG.) Leave it at that.

The occasion? BG’s performance in the lead in a play at her school. She’s a senior. This was her seventh appearance. From her unforgettable performance in “Legally Blond” to her singing “Day by Day” in “Godspell.” Just loved them all.

Last night’s gig? Her best for sure. No need to describe her role here. Just want to capture the emotions Nancy and I felt while watching her perform. Ha! There it was again. “It.”

We’ve always been impressed with the way our granddaughter projects her lines when performing. Articulates her words so beautifully. Speaks out. Draws on her emotions to connect with her audience. We’re biased of course. But no other performer last evening had “It.” She did. From the laughs BG evoked from the audience to the “standing ‘O’” quality ovation as the play ended. She was the star.

How does she bring this together? Connect to her audience. My take? After studying many assorted personalities? A chosen few simply have an “It.” quality about them. Possess a little something extra that’s hard to describe. In fact you can’t. Because it’s instinctive. A gift really. It can be standing out in a crowd. Joining in a meeting and changing the dynamics. Or simply like last night … being on stage.

I think our granddaughter has a little “It.” She’s only eighteen. A senior in high school. So she has lots of time to show more. Her “It” has just begun to shine. Like it did last night.

While Nancy and I drove home. Oh my … we could not stop talking about BG’s performance. Now she’s a real character anyway. Her own person. Her “It” fits her well. We weren’t surprised. Just proud. Even a few tears? Too much? A bit dramatic. Come on … we’re her grandparents.

I just had to capture our emotions here this morning. Assure we can come back. Reread this. About the night BG first put her “It” out there for us to enjoy.

What fun …
