A slight break in the action to capture a “firefly” moment I must share with you.
I’m viewing the celebration … a parade, and a concert honoring the Atlanta Braves baseball team, as the city of Atlanta goes nuts over its first World Championship here in the last twenty six years.
(For a little perspective … Dansby Swanson, the Braves elegant shortstop was one year old when the Braves last won the Series in 1995.)
This day is absolutely crazy! Estimated at 2,000,000 people!! Crowds cheering deliriously as they lined the streets over the entire thirteen mile route. From downtown to Truist Park … the home of the Braves.
Overwhelming. The spirit of Hank Aaron was memorialized throughout the day. Aaron embodied the pure spirit of this team. All team members
expressed how awed they were whenever they were in his presence.
Hank Aaron died in January this year. Among the many tributes Atlanta paid Hank was the painting of a large number 44 in center field. For all to see. 44 was Aaron’s number when he played. “He’s here. His spirit is with us.” ‘… A sentiment expressed in so many ways this day by so many people.
Which brings me to the “connection” … the reality. Yet further evidence that we never really leave those who die, because they never leave us.
“I wish Hank could have been here.” … well, well. Just maybe he was.
Why? Get this!
During the Braves magical run to their Series win? Typically a season is divided in two parts. Games played before the All Star Game … games played after the All Star Game. Aaron died in January before the season began.
The Atlanta Braves won 44 games in the first half of the season. Before the All Star Game.
The Atlanta Braves won 44 games in the second half of the season. After the All Star Game.
The Atlanta Braves had 44 hits as they played through their post season.
The Atlanta Braves won the World Series in the 44th week of 2021.
As Brian Snitker was interviewed at Truist Park during the celebration, he said as tears welled up.
“We had an Angel out there in center field as we won this thing.”
A very “Brave” … undeniable “connection.”
I’m watching the gala right now at Truist Park on TV. Seated on the stage with the team … the owners … the entire Braves family was Hank Aaron’s widow Billie … sitting in a chair.
Maybe Hank was sitting there beside her? … Think so?
Thanks Hank … hope you’re enjoying the celebration.
