First, Baby Girl. I know what you’re going to say … “PopPop, it’s not my birthday yet!”
Ok. Look at her! Pretty sassy, huh. She has the same name as her great grandfather. He was smart. She’s smart too. He lived in truth. She does too. My father was a character. Oh, and Payson? Totally! She turns twenty-one next month. This is my birthday wish for her.
Payson? Always be yourself. Be interesting… but always be interested in others too. Learn from and be proud of your experiences. You have gained important confidence from them. Know how pretty, how beautiful you are. Even though at times you might not think so … it’s true. Always know your mom, dad and your brother are your greatest fans. Your love for them and theirs for you will always be there for you. Oh, I almost forgot the girls, Annie, and Mollie. Your kitties. They love you too. And please respect others time … be “on time!”
A friend once told me, “If you marry a woman who loves her father, there’s a great chance you’ll have a successful marriage.” You should marry very well.
Now, on to Nanny and PopPop. You have been a light in our life for all your twenty-one years. Hard to put into words how much joy you have given us. From Lakeland to Pinestream. From Foxcroft to Riverhill. Whether in bed with Nanny. Or waiting for the “Pancake Man” … all that energy and personality of yours has filled our hearts. Playing sports or performing on stage. OMG, how can we ever forget your dance as the fitness gal in “Legally Blond!” You may not remember bingo night at Ansley? I do. That song you sang at Senior’s Day? I’ve watch it over and over.
Now you’re a rising junior at Northeastern. Boppin’ around Boston. Good grades. Good friends. One in particular? Your trip to London with dad to feature your paper! Wow! All such a credit to who you are, who you are becoming. You just make good things happen.
So, this is my wish. Nanny and PopPop’s reflections. Now you’re legal! Ha! You can have that first cocktail. And as I tell those I coach … There will always be ups. There will always be.downs. Embrace them all.
BE THAT SASSY GAL!
Stay the Course …
Lots of love on your special day, ❤️❤️
