The Boys…
…my triplet 13 yr old grandsons in CT. Born a pound and a half each at birth. In the hospital for months before coming home. They’re special. A loving father, a beautiful mom, my daughter. The early days revealed that one, Willy, was not quite right… autistic. Sadness?… of course. The reality? He’s gifted. So aesthetic, creative, amidst his differences. In so many ways … a joy.
Willy’s two brothers, Jack and Ralfie? Just the best. Positive, loving, very kind. Guys anyone would cherish as friends.
If you have grandchildren, you know what treasures they are. One of the most unexpected joys in life?… becoming a grandparent. Right?
What’s so special about my guys? Somehow the Lord has blessed them with unique talents, sensitivity, above all… the capacity to love… like none I’ve known. Their struggles? The hospital was only a beginning. Too much to elaborate and on here.
But you know this. It’s the challenges of life that move us to find our way… more than the wins. Have you ever climbed a mountain? Barren, rocks, twigs. You look down over your shoulder. Wow! Green trees, grass, lushness.
Ah… Growth takes place in the valleys not on top of the mountain.
Back to the marvel of my boys. At age 13 they blow me away. Their focus, the stuff they remember. Their enthusiasm. The love they share with each other, their parents, their grandparents is unique. You know. If you’re a PopPop or a Nanny, oh do you know! If not, and you’re blessed with grandchildren someday… just wait.
Indeed my boys have seen the valleys… more than most. But I watch them work up the mountain too. At 13 they are wise… aware. Beyond their years. Maybe they’ve already lived their own little lifetimes. Worked through so much… so courageously, so elegantly.
What’s ahead for these guys? Something special, I assure you. Me? I will strive to help them get to know their God. Their faith is a must. As it is for us all. My bet is they will embrace their spiritual side more quickly than others. Because they are special.
Ralfie, Jack and Willy will be weaved into my writings ’til I move on some day.
Hopefully I get to see them with their own kids someday. Delight in the legacy of love they will pass on, engender in their own families.
Magical…
