For the last 19 years I have written a letter at Christmas to my family. I share the 19th with you here.FAITHFaith is trust, assurance and confidence in God.Living faith is shown by service and obedience to God. I write this year’s Christmas letter to my amazing grandchildren…
We talked about “edge” a lot this year, didn’t we.But this Christmas I’ve chosen the word “Faith” instead. Why? Because Christmas is the time of year we celebrate the birth of Jesus, God’s only Son. You see, our Faith in God is at the core of our being. Certainly at the core of mine. Think about Faith as being something you truly feel deeply in your heart. Something that really touches you.
Have you ever wondered where all we have on this earth has come from? The warmth of the sun? The beauty of the ocean? The air we breath?Have you ever been sad, happy or confused? Like me? My faith in God has helped me in so many ways. So many times. Sad? When I got bombed the first game I pitched at Trinity. When I was let go from my 20 year career at Manulife. Happy? The days each of you was born. The day I was lucky enough to marry your grandmother. The days your moms and dads got married.
Confused? Not as much today because I’ve experienced so many things over seventy two years. But there are things in my life I’m not confused about, will remember always. All five of you have given your family very special gifts you’ve received from God. Payson’s unforgettable performance in “Legally Blond”; Ralfie’s incredible catch on the Bluefish baseball diamond; All Jake’s gutsy first pitch hits; Jack’s beautiful swing, what a pro; Handsome Willy’s wondrous artwork.
All gifts given to you… by God. Gifts you have given to us.It’s during tough times when I look to God the most. He has always been there for me. God will be there for you too … always. Just ask Him. There is no more powerful force on earth than the love of God. Please remember this above all.So what does God ask of you? Always do your best. As a student, as a friend, as a loving brother or sister. Respect your parents. They love you so.Pray to God. Know that He is at the core of your being.
So this year’s Christmas letter is dedicated my five beautiful grandchildren. Thanks to each of you for all your gifts, for being who you are. Your parents and grandparents thank God for you… every day.
