I have been in and around the life insurance industry for decades… almost five. A noble calling in my experience. A career in life insurance despite the “one level above a car salesman” jokes is dedicated to a fundamental concept. Protecting human life value. Their are unprofessionals in the business… like most businesses. Relationships at high level advisors however are highly professional. Ask the business man or someone interested in conserving or creating wealth. You can do so with acceptable health and a stroke of a pen.Life insurance. Insurance for if you, when you die. If you die too soon. The industry has another term it has used over the years. “Living” insurance. A guaranteed income steam if you live too long.“Living” insurance. I have a perspective different from the “Living” too long approach above.
How do you insure yourself… while your alive. How do you assure you’ll live… live on in life for a long time. Well? We all read today about obesity, drugs, abusing our bodies in too many ways. But physical conditioning, nutrition, doctors visits, regular exercise… they are all choices too. Better ones of course. The question is, “What are the choices YOU make?” Which side of this issue do you fall on?I’ve
been told many times that 70%… that’s right 70% of fitness is about nutrition. The fuel you put in your most important vehicle… YOU. Breakfast most important? Well, maybe. But if so, not a bagel and a cup.of coffee before you run out the door. I have a Lexus. High test gas only. Another grade and it simply doesn’t perform as well. Sure regular exercise is crucial. But usually overdone. If I work out more, longer the greater the benefits. No.Our health system is going through painful reconstruction as I write this. One issue critical to the rebuild is the issue of the high risk people in America… uninsurable masses in our populace today. Many of these have real maladies, illnesses. I get it. But then there are those who have just abused themselves with a lifestyle that is unhealthy. They simply are not insuring their “Living”… their lives on this earth before they die.
Sad, but we all share in the burden, the price of this unfortunate reality. So when you fuel yourself with junk food, that second desert, or even the stuff, those snacks you sneak because you’re overweight and the guilt causes you to hide consumption. Or when the extra libation feels so good. Or your angry or depressed and food is your “medicine” … think about the creep of this subtle drug, abuse. Food, drink, drugs. The gas for the body. It’s almost patriotic to do so. Abstain. The old “Nancy Reagan” slogan comes to mind (for those old enough to remember) “Just Say No!”
Your loved ones may love you for the life insurance you bought to protect your life’s value when you die. But all would choose you “Living” on for a long, long time to experience your love while you’re alive. Still with them.
